Course Description:
Study Skills is a course designed to enhance your academic experience and increase your learning throughout the school year. Study Skills provides an environment for students to improve on how to study, prepare for tests, projects, quizzes, homework, and other assignments. In addition, “mini-lessons” will be conducted at the beginning of class which provides skills that can be used in all academic class.
Materials
Students should bring the following to class everyday:
1. Pen or Pencil
2. Homework agenda book
3. Something to work on
Grading
Your grade will be determined using the following formula:
Daily Grading: 75%
1. Students should bring a homework agenda book with each subject reported. Even if there is no homework, the planner should say "none". (worth 1 point)
2. Students should come prepared to work. He/She should bring a pen/pencil and other materials needed to complete the assignments recorded in his or her planner. (worth 1 point)
3. Students should use his or her time in Study Skills effectively. He/She should work toward the completion of assignments, ask for help when and where needed, work as independently as possible, work more than socialize, and complete supportive assignments given by the teacher to help strengthen basic skills. (worth 4 points)
The points from each day are added with the following values awarded to each:
6 points = 100
5 points = 90
4 points = 80
3 points = 70
2 points = 60
1 point = 50
0 points = 0
Mini-Lesson Quizzes: 25%
Occasionally students will be quizzed on topics covered during mini-lessons.
Class Rules and Expectations
1. Teacher and students will show respect and courtesy to teachers, other students, and the furnishings of the room.
2. Students should come prepared to class on time everyday and be ready to work when class begins. The school handbook rules will apply in regards to absences and tardiness.
3. Students are expected to fully participate in all lessons designed to improve your study skills, discussions, and any related assignments.
4. No headphones, cell phones, or other electronic devices that could distract your learning or the learning of others are allowed in class unless given express permission.
Please turn them off and put them away.
5. No food is allowed in class unless otherwise noted.
